PRT 210: Introduction to Peer Tutoring

Credits 1
This course is designed as an introduction to peer tutoring. The purpose of this course is to train students who excel in one or more subject areas as peer tutors. Excel, in this course, is defined as the student’s ability to achieve a B or better in one or more academic discipline and to be recommended by a faculty member as a potential peer tutor. Exceling, in this sense, will allow students to obtain the applicable skills to work alongside peers who need academic support, gain certification to be used in future pursuits, and to develop leadership skills associated with becoming a tutor. Credit: 1

PRT 212: Intermediate Peer Tutoring

Credits 1
The second level of the three-part Peer Tutoring Program training; follows Introduction to Peer Tutoring (PRT 210) and continues students' training in peer tutoring and offers additional practice in the Tutoring and Writing Centers as peer tutors. Students must complete PRT 210 which requires students to have been recommended by a faculty member and have earned a minimum of a B in the course in which they are tutoring. 1 credit

PRT 214: Advanced Peer Tutoring

Credits 1
The third level of the three-part Peer Tutoring Program training; follows Introduction to Peer Tutoring (PRT 210) and Intermediate Peer Tutoring while continuing students’ training in peer tutoring and practice while providing opportunities to assist with training and supervision of new tutors in the Learning Center.

PRT 216: Intro to Peer Academic Coaching

Credits 1
The purpose of this course is to train students to guide peers in increasing their own academic effectiveness through the positive experience of individual coaching sessions. Students will practice the applicable skills to work alongside peers who need academic support and develop leadership skills associated with becoming an academic coach.
