The Special Education minor at Cottey College provides students with foundational knowledge and skills to support individuals with a wide range of learning, behavioral, and developmental needs. The minor emphasizes inclusive and individualized practices grounded in educational law, ethical and professional responsibility, and data-informed decision making. Students develop skills in assessment, analysis of student data, and the use of instructional and behavior intervention strategies while learning the importance of collaboration among educators, families, and community partners. Coursework also addresses transition processes, including career-readiness and post-secondary planning, and prepares students to communicate effectively with families, foster family engagement, and connect caregivers with community resources. The minor complements a variety of majors and prepares students to support exceptional learners alongside educators and professionals in the educational and community settings.
